The Amite County Historical and Genealogical Society celebrates the 200th birthday of the chartering of Amite County and the Town of Liberty, MS

The ACHGS invites everyone to come out for one or more days of fun and recounting of the history of one of the oldest settled areas of the state.  A variety of activities are planned over the three days; however, the constant element across the period will be the opportunity to visit the Little Red Schoolhouse museum to learn about the history of the county or, if you have family ties to the area, to visit the genealogy consultants that will be set up in the public library across the street.  To get a complete understanding of all ACHGS events, view &/or download the events flyer here (pdf format, must have Adobe Reader).  Other details about the society may be viewed here.

The main Bicentennial Committee has planned a number of other events that will take place across the entire week of April 27 - May 2, 2009.  Visit the Amite County Bicentennial web site for full details.

Calling all Compatriots:

Greenwood Cemetery Clean-up Day

It's time for our annual clean-up day to ready the Confederate Section of the Greenwood Cemetery for our observance of Confederate Memorial Day on April 26, 2009.  If the weatherman gives a good day for yard work, come out by 9:00 am and bring your tools of foliage destruction.  If enough "hands" show up, the work should go quickly.

2009 Reveille sponsorships needed

Sponsorship of the Reveille by payment of $25 or more entitles the sponsor to make a dedication in the newsletter.  Please indicate which month(s) of sponsorship you prefer so that I can work out the schedule for publication of the dedications and prevent overlap. Assignment of the months will be first-come, first-served, so the sooner you get your request to me, the more likely it will be that your preferred sponsorship month can be assigned to you.

If you would like to sign up for a Reveille sponsorship electronically, click here.  You can easily return to this page when you submit your sign up form.

Thanks.
